The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is ordering banks to conform with the EMV standard starting June 30, 2018 to avoid security issues using the old card technology which is using magnetic stripe.
Cards with EMV chip were proven more secure than using the magnetic stripe.
